Clean surfaces are needed to assure that water treatment chemicals are effective. Water treatment is a misnomer, chemicals are added to the water to react with metal surfaces. The water is the carrier for the chemical. If surfaces are covered with dirt, slime, scale, grease, or corrosion products the water treatment program will be ineffective. Prior to start-up, we recommend using an alkaline cleaner such as CL-483 to remove mill scale and grease from the system. After cleaning, the system needs to be flushed and refilled with treated makeup water. If a mineral deposit, such as calcium carbonate forms, we recommend CL-425 inhibited acid cleaner to remove the deposit. CL-425 contains corrosion inhibitors to prevent corrosion of copper, steel, and zinc surfaces. If a system is filled with bioslime, then biodispersants such as CW-7740 may be required. Your Industrial Water Engineering service staff will make case specific instructions. |
